Mississippi Mission Trip for Youth

This year's Mission Trip for St. Christopher's youth will be to Mississippi to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. The trip will be shared with other youth from the Diocese of Chicago, with details as follows:

Who: J2A Sojourners (grades 8-9), YACS (grades 10-12), college students and adults

What: Mission work at two Mississippi sites in need of volunteer help.

  1. The first is Camp Coast Care, a mission point of the Lutheran & Episcopal Disaster Response, which houses volunteers over 16 of all skill levels who go out into the communities to help residents.
  2. The second is Mission on the Bay, a ministry of Christ Episcopal Church, which offers permanent volunteer housing for youth16 and under who are assisting with clean-up and construction for Katrina victims. It includes indoor sleeping, bathrooms, kitchen and dining room, and also sends out volunteers of all skill levels and ages into the communities.

When: Saturday, July 28 to Saturday, August 4, 2007

Where: Camp Coast Care is in Long Beach, MS and Mission on the Bay is 4 miles away in Bay St. Louis, MS.

Why: To help carry out the Mission of the Church to proclaim God's wondrous deeds while deepening relationship with God and one another, having fun with other members of the Episcopal Church and sharing God's blessings with others.

How much? When do I need to decide? How do I sign up?
Estimated costs are $350 a person. (For scholarship assistance please speak with the rector.) A $100 deposit payable to the Diocese of Chicago (marked Youth Mission Trip) must be mailed no later than March 30 to Sue Cromer, Diocese of Chicago, 65 East Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611-2728. A Rite-13 Mission Trip for grades 6-7 is also being planned at St. Christopher's for the summer of 2007. Stay tuned for details.
